Noah Kahan from Strafford, VT began his music career at age eight by writing, recording, and uploading songs on SoundCloud. The singer-songwriter was soon discovered and offered a record deal. He began touring around the world and became known by his international hit, “Hurt Somebody” [feat. Julia Michaels], which went triple-platinum in Australia and gold in six other countries and was ranked as the third most played song on Australian Top 40 radio of 2018. He then performed this single during his television debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2018. Kahan’s folk-infused pop inspiration comes from fellow artists, such as Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, Counting Crows, Hozier, and Mumford and Sons.

His first single, “Mess,” describes his career growth and reflects upon his love of home. It is a heart-warming account of his childhood and a nostalgic depiction of his hometown.

Kahan’s debut album, Busyhead, was released in 2019. It documents his journey as an artist and asks his audience to join him. He provides insight into the four years leading up to the album’s release and describes his progression from secretly posting singles on SoundCloud to debuting a full-length album. His honest lyrics and relatable concepts of home are uniting factors for his listeners to be inspired to become more vulnerable with themselves and others.

I went to Kahan’s show in Atlanta, GA last night at the Variety Playhouse. JP Saxe, an R&B and pop singer/songwriter, opened for him. Saxe’s incorporation of intricately soulful piano techniques and Kahan’s unique vocal style and harmonization with his bandmates made for an amazing set.
